With CES and auto shows going on/coming up, I am firmly reminded that half the stuff I want comes with “features” that I’ll never use. No, I don’t want every single one of my computer parts to be caked in RGB lighting (especially if they can’t be synced due to different brands), I don’t need the dash to light up like a Christmas tree, and branded puddle lights are tacky as all hell. I’m curious as to which focus group is responsible for all this garbage.

Not going to lie, Ryzen 2 has me stoked, and the Intel chips with Radeon graphics seem pretty rad, but other than that, it’s neon garbage.
And please. It’s all about the Pentiums.

One solid colour seems okay. But graphics cards, motherboards, RAM, fans, and cases all come with RGBs, which not only increase cost, but if you use different brands, there’s most likely no way to sync all the lights to one consistent colour, which is mega lame.

Same here. ALL of that stuff should be strictly optional.

Ford probably has a Model T waiting for you.

It strikes me as prestidigitation. “Sure the car’s ugly as fuck and generic, but look at these sparkly bits!”

There’s a difference between useful features (where has hahayoustupidluddite gone anyway?) like electric starters, power steering, and automatic transmissions, and a light that shines your car’s logo on the ground.

I hate the LED fad on computer parts. All the latest stuff I’ve bought I had to find software to turn off. It’s so bizarre. I mean, if you want it, aftermarket it, but it makes no sense to integrate it into a board/case/etc.
I love LED lights for lighting. They’re fine as on/off/activity lights, but I don’t need my computer to look like a Vegas casino or brothel or something else garish. Computers should not draw attention to themselves.

Those new Intel chips with integrated Radeon graphics are the most exciting thing I’ve seen in a long time. The prospect of being able to play real 3D video games on a system the size of a NUC is kind of mind boggling.

The processor would be the biggest bottleneck. That hasn’t been a thing since like 2000.
Although there are actual reasons this simply could not work without some major emulation.

The prices on them, unfortunately, are a little nuts, especially when you have to add your own RAM, storage, and OS (easily another $500 CAD depending on what you grab since current prices on flash memory is nuts), but I have high hopes.

I thought the new design on the dash was really cool until I realized it was made of glowing LEDs.

I actually am not that bothered by SSD prices. They are so ridiculously long-lived and fast that I can amoritize the cost in my mind over a much longer period. Modern HDDs are such garbage that I don’t know how anyone willingly uses them anymore. We’re talking you need to buy enterprise-grade drives just to hope for five years, which puts them around SSD prices and they’re still less reliable (and slower). I’ve simply quit buying them and insist on SSDs because they last so much longer, are so much faster, and are so much more reliable.

If you could get it without the LEDs, that would be rad.

Fair enough. I have a buddy who uses hard drives like there’s no tomorrow and the number of 3TB Seagates he’s had fail is absurd.
Granted, I’m not ready to drop so much money for terabytes of SSD storage, so hard drives will carry on in my computers.

Most of my large file storage is no longer on my computer because it’s cheaper and less stress to simply store it in Amazon Cloud Drive (mainly for images, which are the only large files I archive anymore). I’ve been running on 512GB (pairs of 256GB SSDs in RAID0) and below on my desktop for years... When I need larger amounts of local storage, I just buy a bunch of slow 2.5” SSDs to run in a RAID6 array on a NAS box.

Ha what are the odds, I dropped off my Jaguar at my new mechanic and the secretary had a light up keyboard just like that. Never seen one before, now twice in one day.

Right on! I cut my teeth on Blues. I’ve since advanced to slightly quieter switches with much more force, it makes everything better.
If/When you get bored of the blues, look into the Glorious GMMK keyboard. I just got one in, it’s modular, so you can swap the switches out at will, and costs all of $50 without switches or keycaps. I haven’t built mine yet, though, still playing with the Input Club K-Types I’ve got.

As regulations clamp on how different cars can be, companies forever see themselves depending on branding and brand loyalty; specially in luxury products like a Mini (its an expensive car for its size) where the space for real differentiation with, say... a Suzuki Swift, is shrinking.
In lieu of inovation there´s branding my friend.
